Our Programs

IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC CURRICULUM, CHILDREN ENROLLED AT ASPIRATION ACADEMY WILL PARTICIPATE IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL GROUPS TO ENHANCE THEIR LEARNING EXPERIENCE

A group for reading: (e.g. The Oprah Winfrey Reading Society)

  • Read all or parts of books to children and then have them read to the rest of the class or an individual mentor.

  • Each child will get a copy of the book that was highlighted that week.

A group for individual pride: (e.g. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pride Society)

  • Each background of attendees will be talked about in positive terms.

  • Have guest speakers from different religions and/or ethnic groups with emphasis on the children's religious and/or ethnic groups.

A group for Black history: (e.g. The Jackie Robinson History Society)

  • Teachers or volunteers will relate the "story" of prominent Blacks in America.

  • Local Black community leaders will relate their "story" and ultimate success.

A group for patriotism and history of the United States: (e.g. The Winston Scott Patriotism Society)

  • Support will be provided by books that show the importance and influence of Black people in America's history, the Hillsdale College patriotic courses adopted for children, and the Rush Revere American History book collection.

A group for dreaming: (e.g. The Gayle King Dream Society)

  • Each child will be able to tell of their dreams for the future with the rest of the group providing commentary, insights, support, and suggestions.

  • Follow-up support will be provided by teachers and/or volunteers to assist in the dreams of each child.

  • Reading and math will be emphasized as being necessary to fulfill most dreams.

A group for volunteering: (e.g. The Sheila Johnson Helping Hand Society)

  • Age-appropriate projects will be developed so that students will find the joy of being able to help others.
